With Halloween on the horizon, it’s time to mix up something that’s equal parts enchanting and unexpected.
Enter Witchful Thinking, a potion-colored cocktail that casts a flavorful spell with every sip. From the moment it hits the glass, this one is all about drama, from its eerie green hue to its sweet-and-tart, fruit-forward balance.
Created in partnership with Bacardi, this recipe puts their Bacardi Superior Rum to delicious use. It’s a cocktail that’s just as stunning as it is sippable.
We start with the base—Bacardi Superior Rum. This iconic light rum is crisp and slightly fruity, which makes it the perfect foundation for building layered, vibrant cocktails. It doesn’t steal the spotlight, but it smooths the path for the bolder ingredients to shine.
Next comes Midori, the star of the show in terms of color and character.
Known for its neon green glow and sweet melon flavor, Midori is what gives Witchful Thinking its supernatural tint.
But don’t worry, it’s not overpowering. In fact, it blends beautifully with the citrus and tropical elements that follow.
Pineapple juice and lemon juice come in next. Pineapple adds tropical sweetness, mellowing out the Midori while keeping the drink juicy and bright. The lemon juice, on the other hand, sharpens things up with a clean, citrusy edge that brings the drink to life.
To deepen the flavor (and the magic), we add a splash of sour apple schnapps. It adds tartness, a subtle candy-like sweetness, and reinforces that green apple tang you expect in Halloween-inspired sips.
Everything is shaken together with ice and strained into a lowball glass, but before pouring, you’ll want to prep that glass for maximum effect.
Black lava salt on the rim is where the spooky mood really locks in. Visually, it’s bold and gothic.
Flavor-wise, the salt adds a mineral contrast to the sweet-and-sour mix, creating the perfect sip every time.
Step 1: Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake until well combined.
Step 2: Rim glass with lemon juice and black lava salt.
Step 3: Strain mixture into prepared glass over ice.
This Witchful Thinking cocktail is unlike any recipe I’ve whipped up before. It’s the ultimate party pour for your spooky soirée.
It’s a crowd-pleaser with personality, perfect for themed parties, pre-trick-or-treat gatherings, or just celebrating the season with a little extra flair. Plus, that black lava salt rim? Major photo moment.
