The Lucky Charm

Can you guess the inspiration behind The Lucky Charm? St. Patrick’s Day of course! However, I’m a firm believer that these seasonal cocktails can be enjoyed any time you’re craving them. After all, there’s really no reason to limit yourself in the world of cocktails. This is a recipe that’s super similar to a Long Island but with a few alterations that make it stand out on its own! There’s a variety of spirits and flavors in The Lucky Charm, so let’s break it down to get a better understanding of how they all come together.

As mentioned, this cocktail has a few different spirits involved, making it a boozy treat indeed! We’ve got gin, pineapple rum, and vodka lending an assortment of tasting notes to the mix. Gin adds those floral, botanical flavors which I personally find pleasant, but I’m a huge fan of gin so that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Vodka gives this mixture even more of a boozy kick while introducing its clean, crisp notes that smooth out some of those bold botanical flavors we taste from gin. These two spirits are pretty essential in the mixology world, but we’re adding an extra layer of flavors with the rum. Rather than sticking to traditional white rum, I grabbed a bottle of pineapple rum. This simple adjustment brings in some sweet and tangy flavors.

Going forward with the pineapple theme, I’ve incorporated pineapple juice to enhance the mixture and complement the tropical flavors already present from the rum. Given that this cocktail draws inspiration from St. Patrick’s Day, we’re aiming to achieve a distinct green color, which is where Midori comes into play.

Midori is a lemon-flavored liqueur renowned for its vibrant green color, making it a favored addition to various cocktail recipes. Its primary taste comes from the muskmelon, a sweet melon akin to cantaloupe and honeydew but with a more intense, candy-like sweetness. This ingredient perfectly complements the Lucky Charm cocktail.

After shaking, the drink is served in a highball glass over fresh ice, garnished with a simple lime wheel on a skewer. For an added playful element, place dried pineapple wheels against the glass before pouring in the mixture!
