An Old Fashioned cocktail is no stranger to this Queen Bee. I’ve mixed up so many variations of this classic sipper, a Smoked Old Fashioned, Chocolate Old Fashioned, and even a Tropical Rum Old Fashioned. As you can tell, this is one of my favorite recipes to have fun with!
Today, I’ll be taking you through a recipe that’s no different. The Sun-Kissed Old Fashioned is my latest variation on this timeless classic.
This recipe retains the soul of the original while embracing a sunnier disposition, which I for one love.
Not diverging too far from the classic recipe, the foundation that sets this Sun-Kissed Old Fashioned into motion is bourbon.
But, in classic Queen Bee fashion, I’m kicking this bourbon experience up a notch by using apricot-infused bourbon. Bourbon, known for its rich and slightly sweet profile, forms the perfect canvas for the apricot’s subtle (yet distinct) fruity notes.
This fusion makes for a perfectly balanced spirit!
To complement the bourbon, we bring in some honey simple syrup. Unlike traditional sugar-based syrups, honey adds a luxurious richness and a mild, floral sweetness that elevates the mixture.
It intertwines gracefully with the bourbon, enhancing its natural sweetness while adding a layer of complexity that sugar alone can’t achieve.
Cherry bitters are the final touch, a nod to the Old Fashioned’s roots. The bitters provide a subtle complexity to counter the sweetness of the apricot and honey.
The cherry notes in the bitters resonate with the apricot in the bourbon, creating a lovely fruit-forward profile that is both intriguing and comforting.
The Sun-Kissed Old Fashioned is adorned with a skewer featuring a Luxardo Cherry and a dried apricot, a visual and flavorful complement to the drink.
Step 1: Add all ingredients into a beaker with ice and stir until chilled.
Step 2: Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
Step 3: Garnish with an apricot and maraschino cherry.
The Sun-Kissed Old Fashioned pays homage to the classic Old Fashioned while confidently asserting its unique personality.
