Here in the U.S., the Almond Joy candy bar is a classic sweet treat, frequently enjoyed by people of all ages. I mean, who doesn’t love the always-delicious combination of chocolate, coconut, and almond? Well if you’re already a fan, and a member of the 21+ crowd, you’ll love this dessert cocktail creation! The Spiked Almond Joy takes the candy’s traditional flavors and pairs them with a subtle kick of coffee, making for the perfect after-dinner drink. So grab your cocktail shaker, because right now we’re mixing up one seriously tasty dessert in a glass.
For this cocktail recipe, I chose to use Starbucks’ pre-prepared Mocha Frappuccino–and I was not disappointed. This ingredient can be easily found in any grocery store and instantly gives the Spiked Almond Joy a perfect balance of creamy sweetness. Next up: choosing your rum! There are several great coconut rums on the market, and I don’t think you can really go wrong. I’d suggest picking up whatever is in stock at your local liquor store, and, as always, if you’re looking for ways to build up your home bar, keep an eye on which brands or flavor profiles will easily lend themselves to other amazing cocktail recipes.
Now, when you taste this amazing cocktail creation, you will probably be tempted to forget that it is, in fact, an adult beverage. If you’re anything like me, this combination of flavors may take you back to time spent pouring over a Halloween candy haul with siblings, or begging your parents for a last minute indulgence at the grocery store. And while I love reflecting back on those beloved memories, there’s nothing like enjoying an Almond Joy’s classic taste, but with a twist. So shake one up, and enjoy!
