Spicy Mojito

Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time in my kitchen, crafting delightful new recipes to share with you. My latest experiment? A Spicy Mojito that’s bound to add a fiery twist to your cocktail lineup. If you love a bit of heat in your drinks, this one’s a must-try!

Before getting into this fiery drink, let’s rewind to where it all began. The classic Mojito is a Cuban original, beloved for its refreshing qualities and its simple yet elegant balance of flavors. Traditionally, it’s a mix of white rum, sugar, lime juice, mint, and soda water. What’s not to love, right? It’s crisp, it’s refreshing, and it’s the perfect companion for a hot day.

Grab a highball glass and throw in a few small lime wedges. Add in some fresh mint leaves—about six or seven should do. Sprinkle in about a bar spoon of sugar. This isn’t just sweetening the deal; it’s about creating a base that brings out the zesty lime and the cool mint. When these are muddled together you’re not just squishing them; you’re coaxing out the lime’s tangy juice and essential oils from the mint.

Now for the twist—slice up a fresh jalapeño and drop about 4-5 of the slices into the glass. Muddle these with the existing mix. Here’s where the heat sneaks in. Those jalapeños aren’t just bringing spice; they add a crisp, vegetal depth that contrasts beautifully with the sweetness and tartness.

The base spirit of this cocktail is no different from the classic recipe: white rum. The rum doesn’t overpower; it’s simply the foundation of the mixture that supports the vibrant flavors in your glass. Fill the glass with ice and top it all off with some seltzer water to add a fizzy texture that makes each sip more invigorating.
