Spicy Lemon Drop

The Lemon Drop cocktail is a widely beloved classic, enjoyed either as a sipped martini or as quick shooters. It’s sweet, zesty, and incredibly smooth, which I absolutely adore. However, today I’ll be sharing a new and spicy twist on this classic: The Spicy Lemon Drop.

Kicking things off with some preparation, you’ll want to rim a rocks glass with lemon juice and then sugar. This cocktail is known for its bold citrusy notes, so I aimed for a sweet finish, and nothing says sweet quite like sugar.

Lemon Drops are traditionally vodka-based cocktails, but since this is a Spicy Lemon Drop, I decided to elevate the spice level by using chile-infused vodka. You might find chile vodka in stores, but I made my own, which is simpler than you might think! Just take some red chile peppers, slice them, and immerse them in your favorite vodka. This should be done in advance, ideally a few hours before, but letting it infuse for a day enhances the flavor. This chile-infused vodka introduces a unique combination of heat and flavor to the cocktail.

To balance the heat, I added a touch of elderflower liqueur, which mellows out the spiciness while adding a floral note. It’s also important to ensure the cocktail has enough sweetness, beyond just the sugared rim. I opted for classic simple syrup to maintain the prominence of the existing flavors in the recipe.

Lastly, we add the lemon juice, which is crucial as this is a twist on the Lemon Drop cocktail. The lemon is what gives this cocktail its zesty and refreshing character, reminiscent of a spicy, boozy lemonade!

Step 1: Rim glass with lemon juice and sugar.

Step 2: Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker topped with ice. Shake until chilled.

Step 3: Strain into prepared glass over fresh ice and garnish.

Spicy, tangy, and sweet are the words I would use to describe this Spicy Lemon Drop. At first glance, it looks just like the classic, but after your first sip, you’re in for a true surprise. If you’re a fan of spicy cocktails or Lemon Drops, then I highly recommend shaking this one up this weekend!
