Sassy Southern Sipper

Diamonds

Do you love chocolate and peanut butter? I sure do! In fact, if either ingredient makes its way into my kitchen I can promise that it won’t be around for long. And because my love for these two runs so deep, I knew I had to get this classic pairing into a cocktail. The Sassy Southern Sipper is a fantastic blend of peanut butter, chocolate, and–brace yourselves–orange. That’s right, this drink is one part peanut butter cup, one part chocolate orange and you have my word that the result is nothing short of delicious.

Now I love chocolate in all its forms, but when I think about chocolate and peanut butter, one classic treat comes to mind. That’s right, the Reese’s cup. Did you know that this iconic candy was created by a man named Harry Reese, who happened to work on a dairy farm owned by none-other than Milton Hershey? I sure didn’t but, hey, you learn something new everyday! Reese’s cups are set to celebrate their 100th birthday in 2028 and, as it stands now, are the number 2 best selling candy product, beat out only by M&Ms.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the delicious richness of any chocolate-peanut butter treat. But I knew that for this dessert cocktail recipe, I wanted to balance that depth of flavor with something a bit lighter. So, I reached a bit of fresh orange juice and voila! The Sassy Southern Sipper was born. Not only does the orange’s slight acidity add another dimension of tasting notes, it also gives this libation ties to another candy classic, the chocolate orange. If you’re serving this sweet cocktail up for guests, I suggest garnishing with a chocolate orange for a fun twist!
