The Raspberry Sour is a fruity spin on the standard sour cocktail recipe. Raspberries are some of my favorite berries to work with because of their sweet flavor and slight acidity. In this case, those exact flavor notes blend perfectly with a sour cocktail to create an even balance of sweet and tangy.
Since spring is here, I’ve been creating some lovely cocktails to welcome in the blooming season. I’m a summer gal through and through, but I do have a great appreciation for the spring time as the weather starts to lighten up, at least in Seattle that is. The Raspberry Sour has been one of my latest concoctions that I’ve whipped up with you all in mind in order to enjoy this season the right way: sipping on cocktails, of course!
This Raspberry Sour is a delightful drink which combines the sweetness of fresh raspberries with the tanginess of lemon juice and the kick of vodka to create a refreshingly tasty cocktail that you’ll want to savor again and again.
Traditional sour cocktails consist of a base spirit, lemon juice, and a sweetener of your choosing. This is the exact formula I went by in order to keep things simple, but I tweaked some things as I went along. To start, I decided to go for a flavored vodka to enhance the overall sweetness of the mixture and smooth out the acidity from the lemon juice. Vanilla vodka is one of my favorites since it has a rich aroma that makes it the perfect base for this fruity recipe. I’ve used vanilla vodka in so many cocktail recipes; I definitely recommend keeping a bottle of it in your home bar!
As for the raspberry element, rather than opting for a general sweetener like simple syrup, I mixed in some raspberry flavored syrup. For me, it’s the best of both worlds as raspberries are the star component of the flavor and it works perfectly as a sweetener.
When mixing all the ingredients together, the result is sweet, foamy goodness!
Step 1: Chill glass in the freezer. Add the all ingredients to a cocktail shaker without ice and dry shake until frothy. Add ice then shake until chilled.
Step 2: Strain into your chilled glass over ice, garnish with raspberries.
The Raspberry Sour cocktail is a burst of tangy and fruity flavors in every sip. The combination of all these flavors creates a refreshing and bright taste that is ideal for a sunny day or a lively evening with friends. Trust when I say, It’ll become a crowd favorite!
