My Pecan Old Fashioned recipe puts a unique twist on a classic cocktail. Drawing flavor from smoked hickory wood chips, this drink is complex and delicious. Plus, the presentation of this cocktail is also sure to add the “wow” factor, making it the perfect choice for any special occasion. Personally, I find it’s ideal for outdoor evenings in autumn or a weekend cabin getaway, but you can enjoy this drink year-round.
This unique take on a timeless recipe features rich and smoky bourbon, warm and nutty pecan syrup, and the hint of spicy cinnamon bitters: a perfect balance of sweet and smoky. To get the flavor just right, I recommend smoking your cocktail with a handful of hickory smoking chips. And don’t forget to finish off your perfect old fashioned with a delicious candied pecan for an extra decadent treat.
Step 1: Combine ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice, and stir until chilled.
Step 2: Strain into cocktail glass and place into a paper bag.
Step 3: Place a small pile of Hickory Wood Chips in a a small bowl or glass and light.
Step 4: Extinguish active flames, but allow chips to continue smoking. Use a pair of tongs to place wood chips into the paper bag with the cocktail.
Step 5: Roll the bag closed and let sit for 1-2 minutes. Open the bag and enjoy! Please remove wood chips from bag and ensure they are fully extinguished!
Optional: Squeeze an orange over the cocktail for a hint of citrus.
Garnish with a candied pecan and dried orange.
If you enjoy classic cocktails with a bit of a twist, or if you’re a bourbon fan looking for something new and delicious to try, I highly recommend the Pecan Old Fashioned. It is sure to please even the most discerning palates, and highly impress your guests. Cheers!
