Lately, I’ve felt that I’ve made a lot of cocktails focused around gin or vodka, and while these are essential spirits for any at-home bar, I think it’s time to bring in a favorite in my household – whiskey! So, today I’m going to be walking you through my latest concoction, the Peach Whiskey Smash.
When shaking up a whiskey-based cocktail you want to be very selective with the flavors being mixed in. The spirit alone has fairly distinctive notes and you’ll want to make sure the ingredients don’t compete with each other. The Peach Whiskey Smash is a simple and balanced recipe, but it’s filled with flavor, so let’s dive right into it!
As many of you know, I’m a big fan of using fresh ingredients, especially when their flavor is the essence of the cocktail. In this case that would be sweet, juicy peaches. Since it’s summer time, ’tis the season for fresh peaches and mixing them into some lovely cocktails. By muddling together peaches and a few lemon slices, you’ll create a sweet yet tangy fusion of flavors.
In this particular recipe, I’m opting for bourbon due to its rich and slightly smoky notes. This isn’t a cocktail where the whiskey is hidden away; instead, it proudly stands tall, working seamlessly with the other ingredients to create a balanced and unified taste.
And of course, we have to add a bit of sweetener to the mix. In this case, a hint of maple syrup gives a touch of earthy sweetness that deepens the flavor of the cocktail with a slight woody note, giving a more complex experience than a general simple syrup might offer. I definitely recommend keeping this in mind when you’re in the mood for a whiskey-based libation.
Step 1: Add peach slices and lemon slices to a shaker and muddle together.
Step 2: Add the rest of the ingredients and ice to the shaker. Shake until well combined.
Step 3: Strain into rocks glass over large ice sphere or cube.
Step 4: Garnish with a slice of peach and mint.
The Peach Whiskey Smash is summer in a glass. It’s a delightful mix of fruity, sweet, tangy, and refreshing flavors that all come together beautifully. It’s a fruity twist on a classic whiskey smash and I know you’ll all love it as much as I do, so I think it’s time to get sipping!
