Welcome to a vibrant corner where cocktails meet wellness, and today I’m excited to introduce the Orange Turmeric Margarita. This isn’t just any cocktail—it’s a fusion of health and pleasure, meticulously crafted for those who adore a good drink but also cherish their well-being.
The Orange Turmeric Margarita stands apart from your traditional margarita. Instead of relying on store-bought mixes laden with sugars and artificial flavors, we embrace the wholesomeness of fresh ingredients. Each element is chosen not just for taste but for its contribution to your health.
Let’s start where every sip begins—the rim. This unique blend of ground turmeric, ancho chili powder, and salt isn’t just about adding a burst of color; it’s about awakening your palate. Turmeric, renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties, and ancho chili, with its subtle heat and hint of sweet-smoky flavors, create a rim that’s not just visually appealing but also beneficial.
Any margarita recipe has to have a great tequila to set the foundation for the remaining ingredients. As this is a more complex margarita recipe, I opted for a nice reposado tequila which will help add a bit of depth to this libation.
Now let’s get into the healthier alternatives that are added to the recipe! Turmeric simple syrup and freshly squeezed orange juice. Turmeric-infused simple syrup is a bold, innovative twist on the classic sweetener. Turmeric isn’t just a trend in the culinary world; it’s a time-honored spice with a host of benefits that have been celebrated in traditional medicine for centuries. We also can’t forget about the freshly squeezed orange juice, providing vitamin C and a natural sweetness that forgoes any need for added sugars.
A traditional element in margaritas is Triple Sec, but in this version, I’d suggest a lower-sugar or all-natural variant to keep things light. We’re also going to drop in a few dashes of orange bitters to really enhance those citrusy notes within the margarita.
Straining it over fresh ice in your rimmed glass is like unveiling a masterpiece, and the final touch—garnishing with diced oranges on a skewer.
Step 1: Combine turmeric, ancho chili powder, and salt. Wet the rim of the glass with an orange slice and dip the glass in the rim mixture.
Step 2: Add remaining ingredients into a cocktail shaker topped with ice. Shake until chilled.
Step 3: Strain the mixture into your prepared glass over fresh ice.
Step 4: Garnish with a couple diced oranges on a skewer.
The presentation of our Orange Turmeric Margarita is a testament to the saying “we eat with our eyes first” or in this case, drink. The vibrant orange hue, the golden rim dusted with spices, and the elegant garnish make this cocktail a standout. It’s a cocktail that doesn’t just delight the senses but also respects the body.
Here’s to a drink that’s as good for you as it is good to you!
