Orange Bourbon Sour

Diamonds

The Orange Bourbon Sour takes the classic whiskey sour and gives it a vibrant, citrus-forward twist.

By combining rich bourbon, bright orange and lemon juice, and a velvety egg white finish, this cocktail strikes the perfect balance between bold, smooth, and refreshing.

This recipe builds on the traditional sour template but introduces unique elements that make every sip unforgettable. The orange-zested sugar rim enhances both presentation and aroma, while the egg white creates a silky, cloud-like texture that carries the cocktail’s complex flavors.

If you’re craving a bold yet citrusy bourbon cocktail, this one is a must-try!

At the heart of this cocktail is bourbon, bringing warmth, depth, and a rich oaky backbone.

For the citrus component, fresh orange juice and lemon juice work together to create a cocktail that’s both bright and well-balanced. While lemon juice is a classic in sour cocktails, the addition of orange juice adds a sweeter, juicier dimension that sets this variation apart.

Instead of traditional simple syrup, I opted for maple syrup to enhance the cocktail’s depth and natural warmth. This small swap brings a hint of caramelized sweetness, perfectly complementing the citrus and bourbon.

To tie everything together, I added orange bitters—a subtle yet powerful ingredient that enhances the cocktail’s zesty citrus notes and aromatic complexity.

Finally, an egg white is shaken in to create that signature frothy, smooth texture that makes every sip feel luxurious.

Step 1: Combine the orange zest and sugar in a small bowl or shallow dish. Moisten the rim of a rocks glass with lemon. Dip the rim of the glass in the orange zest sugar.

Before getting into shaking, I recommend prepping the glass before the mixture is ready to pour.

The rim consists of coarse sugar mixed with orange zest, creating a sweet yet zesty finish with each sip!

Step 2: Pour all the ingredients into a shaker without ice. Dry shake until mixture is foamy (about 30 seconds).

Using Egg Whites in Cocktails?!

Egg whites are a great way to add a silky, foamy texture to cocktails—and yes, they’re totally safe to use when fresh. To separate, crack the egg and gently transfer the yolk back and forth between the shell halves, letting the white fall into your shaker.

For the best foam, use a ‘dry shake’—shake the egg white with your other ingredients first, then add ice and shake again to chill and dilute.
