What do you envision when you think of the Pacific Northwest? As someone who has lived in the region for years, my mind immediately jumps to evergreen forests, awe-inspiring bodies of water, and skylines dotted with some of the world’s most iconic mountain peaks. I know that a lot of other locals love these PNW treasures as much as I do–especially my friends over at Olympia Vodka. So, when they asked me to create a perfect summer cocktail using their artesian spirit, I knew I had to keep it close to the brand’s regional roots. Thats why I chose to use fresh, seasonal ingredients that would highlight not only Olympia Vodka’s distinct flavors, but act as a tribute to the joy of a Seattle area summer.
If you’ve ever spent a summer in Western Washington, you know that blackberries are abundant this time of year–which made choosing this cocktail’s main ingredient a no brainer. This freshly picked fruit was the only way to go! Plus, to add a little bit of sunny season fun, I decided to head out to the mountains and harvest the berries myself. After all, who doesn’t love a day in the great outdoors?
So, my team and I packed our bags and went to visit a nearby, and truly one-of-a-kind, destination–Snoqualmie Falls. We spent the afternoon hiking the park’s grounds, viewing the awe-inspiring waterfall, and picking blackberries off of the many bushes that line the area’s beautiful trails.
And who doesn’t love punctuating a long day outside with an amazing vodka cocktail? In my opinion, an after-hike happy hour is the only way to go. And on this special day, I chose to muddle the berries we found along the way–combining them with the incredible flavor of Olympia Vodka, and delicious flavors of mint, lime, and ginger. Trust me when I say that my adventure buddies were not disappointed! So whether you’re right here in the PNW, or somewhere far away, be sure to mix up a Mountain Berry cocktail and let me know what you think!
