A traditional White Russian cocktail is a fan favorite but as you know, I love creating different variations of classics! Today, we’re going to be swapping the vodka for some tequila and making a Mexican White Russian, a delicious twist on a tried and true recipe. From the boldness of the espresso flavors to the decadent finish of the whipped cream, this tequila-based recipe has all the flavors you need to create a truly well-rounded cocktail.
This drink is a game-changer for anyone who loves coffee and cocktails. You’ve got the smooth and subtle kick of the tequila, which is perfectly balanced by the rich and indulgent flavor of the cafe liqueur. The cafe liqueur adds a perfect touch of sweetness and a warm, comforting coffee flavor to the mix. I mixed this recipe with a tequila cafe liqueur and fell in love! So, if you’re a fan of a cocktail that is spirit-forward, I’d definitely add that in. If you’re looking for a taste that leans more towards espresso, I recommend adding a traditional cafe liqueur.
I also love the heavy cream. It helps to round out the whole experience, giving the drink a smooth and velvety texture that just melts in your mouth. It’s like a luxurious treat that you can sip and savor.
In this recipe, I selected a blanco tequila. This type of (un-aged) tequila tends to have citrusy, spiced notes that I’m huge fan of. But as always, feel free to customize this recipe to your needs! If you’re looking to go the extra mile, I’d recommend making your own whipped cream (it only takes minutes and really makes the difference between “good” and “outstanding”).
Step 1: Make whipped cream: whip together heavy cream and vanilla extract. Set aside.
Step 2: Fill a rocks glass with ice. Add silver (blanco) tequila and café tequila into glass.
Step 3: Slowly pour the heavy cream on top. Add a dollop of whipped cream in the glass.
The overall flavor profile is indulgent and delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess. It’s a little bit like a boozy iced coffee, but with a twist that takes it to the next level. Honestly, it’s hard to describe the flavor of a Mexican White Russian without making your mouth water, so trust me when I say that once you try it, you’ll be hooked! Go ahead and give it a sip – your taste buds will thank you.
