Imagine a drink that captures the essence of the holiday season, blending the warmth of traditional festivities with a twist of tropical surprise. That’s the Merry Berry Coco-Rita for you! A perfect margarita recipe to enjoy these upcoming weeks as we get ready unwind a bit for the holidays. But, honestly this recipe is so good I wouldn’t be surprised if you wanted to mix it up all year long. There are so many different flavors at play here, some classic elements and some new!
Let me walk you through just how to make your own Merry Berry Coco-Rita.
The center of any margarita recipe is the one and only: tequila! As some of you may know, there are not only a few different type of tequilas to choose from when mixing cocktail but also dozens of brands to sort through. However, for cocktails I mostly stick with silver tequila unless I want a bit of complexity, then I reach for the Reposado. But, in this recipe I’m staying true with what I know best and the tequila you can find in most margarita recipes: silver tequila. Its clean, crisp profile lays the foundation for our cocktail, setting a stage for a playful mix of flavors.
Adding a layer of complexity is the orange liqueur. This liqueur doesn’t just add sweetness; it brings a depth of flavor, elevating the cocktail from good to unforgettable. Then there’s the lime juice, the traditional heart of a margarita. In our concoction, it brings its characteristic zesty punch. This isn’t just about adding sourness; it’s about creating a balance, a perfect counterpoint to the sweetness, giving the drink a refreshing touch.
The cranberry juice is where our cocktail starts to diverge from the classic path. Cranberries, with their tart and fruity notes, add a layer of complexity. They bring a brightness to the drink, a splash of flavor that’s both bold and inviting. But the real twist comes with the coconut cream. This isn’t your average cocktail ingredient. It adds a creamy, rich texture and a hint of tropical sweetness, transforming the drink into a multi-dimensional sipping experience.
Served in a rocks glass, the Merry Berry Coco-Rita is visually stunning. The deep crimson of the cranberry juice contrasts beautifully with the creamy swirls of coconut cream. Topped off with a fresh rosemary sprig and a few fresh cranberries, providing an aromatic touch and a pop of color! (By the way, if you’re interested in rosemary as a garnish, I have an entire blog post about it.)
Step 1: Pour all ingredients into a shaker topped with ice. Shake until chilled.
Step 2: Strain the cocktail mixture into a lowball glass over fresh ice.
Step 3: Garnish with rosemary sprigs and fresh cranberries.
So, here’s to the holidays, to the warmth of shared moments, and to the magic in a glass that is the Merry Berry Coco-Rita. Let’s raise our glasses and toast to the season of joy and celebration.
