Jalapeño Cucumber Cooler

Diamonds

Think of a margarita but with a crisp, fresh finish and a spicy kick for those who enjoy a bit of heat! Well, the Jalapeño Cucumber Cooler was made to check all of those boxes and more. Originally it was inspired by St. Patrick’s Day (hence the green), however after giving this a taste myself it’s truly a sipper made to enjoy all year long.

Before getting into the build of this cocktail, you’ll want to make sure your glass is prepped, and it requires only seconds of your time! It’s simple: take a rocks glass and rim it with some lime, then dip it in salt. Set the glass aside while you’re making the cocktail mixture so that things are ready to go once everything is shaken up.

The name of this cocktail was inspired by the star flavors of this recipe: jalapeños and cucumbers. As many of you may know, I absolutely love utilizing fresh ingredients in my cocktails, and these two really do a great job balancing each other out. Before getting into the liquid ingredients, I wanted to extract some of their fresh flavors by muddling some cucumber and jalapeño slices together with lime juice. This helps give the cocktail mixture a blend of flavors that are both refreshing and spicy. This step that is also crucial when wanting to get that vibrant green hue in your mixture, so be sure to muddle well.

These flavor notes work particularly well with spirits that have a neutral or slightly spiced based, like tequila! In this case I opted for a Reposado tequila in order to give the cocktail more depth and some complexity. Reposado tequila blends well in cocktails that have bold, spicy, or sweet flavors, making it an easy choice.

Finally, to not only sweeten things up but also round out this cocktail, I added in some agave syrup. Agave syrup pairs beautifully in any tequila-based cocktail, their flavor-profiles align together well due to the fact these two ingredients come from the same plant.
