Grapefruit Margarita

Diamonds

I have to tell you, I’ve always been a fan of tequila. But on my most recent trip to Mexico, I absolutely fell in love with this versatile spirit and learned a lot along the way. While visiting San José del Cabo, my husband and I sipped our way through more than one tequila tasting room. This experience taught us so much about the individual types of tequila, along with each of their unique distilling and aging processes. And now from blanco, to joven, to reposado, you can count me as a tequila drinker for life.

What better way to enjoy a great tequila than to mix it up in a delicious margarita? This simple, yet divine, Grapefruit Margarita requires just four ingredients–all of which should be easy to source close to home. When it comes to selecting your tequila, I suggest choosing a blanco, also known as silver. Blanco tequilas are known for their clear/white appearance, indicative of the fact that they are never aged in barrels and therefore have the purest blue agave taste. You also definitely want to choose a bottle that is labeled as 100% agave to avoid purchasing a liquor that has been mixed with cheap cane sugar.

I’m from the Seattle area and I have to admit, some of our long, grey, and rainy winter days can really make me miss that last vacation to Mexico and those incredible tequila tasting rooms. The good news is that whenever I long to be sunning myself on a tropical beach, or swimming up to a poolside bar, I can mix up this delicious Grapefruit Margarita and be instantly transported back. Before I know it, I feel like I’m back at the resort, relaxing among the palm trees. I encourage you to add this fantastic tequila-based recipe to your cocktail repertoire and do the same!
