Bonjour, communauté des cocktails! Today, I want to chat with you about one of the most famous cocktails in the world: the French 75. This delicious and refreshing drink is made with gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and champagne. It’s a true classic (and for a good reason)! But have you ever tried it with honey instead of simple syrup? If not, you’re in for a treat!
The French 75 cocktail was first created during World War I at the New York Bar in Paris, which is now known as Harry’s New York Bar. The drink was named after the French 75mm field gun, which was recognized for its powerful kick. Similarly, the French 75 cocktail is known for its kick thanks to the gin and champagne.
So, what does the addition of honey do to this classic cocktail? Well, honey has a unique flavor that adds depth and complexity to the drink. It also adds a bit of sweetness without being too overpowering. The champagne and lemon juice both provide a tartness that balances out the honey. Overall, this version of the French 75 is a well-rounded and tasty cocktail that’s great for any occasion.
Step 1: Add ice, gin, lemon juice, and honey to a cocktail shaker.
Step 2: Shake to combine.
Step 3: Strain into glass and top with champagne.
Step 4: Garnish with lemon peel.
This is a recipe I whip up when I’m feeling a bit fancy but still want to keep things simple. The best part is you can find most (if not all) ingredients either in your bar or pantry! It’s a mixture that’s light, easy to sip on, and oh so good. Be sure to garnish with a gorgeous lemon twist!
Cheers!
