Forest Gin Sour

Diamonds

The Forest Gin Sour takes the classic gin sour recipe we all know and love, then elevates it by adding in some new flavors to enjoy. Herbal, foamy, and refreshing, this gin sour has tasting notes that will surprise you, but I promise you will love it!

As this is a gin sour, the base spirit setting the foundation for this drink is gin. Now, this is called the Forest Gin Sour, and that’s because this cocktail was named after the specific brand of gin I used, Freeland Forest Gin. This gin, infused with floral and fresh green notes and enriched with deep earthy tones reminiscent of fresh rain, is inspired by the essence of a forest. Its name alone hints at this woodland inspiration. To enhance the gin’s natural flavors, I introduced fresh thyme leaves, adding piney notes that significantly shape the cocktail’s flavor profile. This addition creates a unique twist on the classic gin sour, offering a drink that truly embodies the spirit of the woods.

Since this is a sour cocktail, we add in lemon juice to balance the robust flavors of the gin. To introduce a touch of sweetness and add complexity, honey is chosen for its natural sweetness and its ability to enrich the cocktail with its thick, velvety texture.

Angostura bitters are a subtle yet necessary ingredient in this Forest Gin Sour. Angostura bitters add a complex layer of flavors, including a blend of herbs, spices, and botanicals, which pair beautifully with gin! In several of my cocktail recipes, these bitters have transformed a simple drink into something more sophisticated and nuanced.

Lastly, we have egg white in order to create that foamy, smooth finish on top on the cocktail. This gives the cocktail a nice, silky finish while also thickening up the mixture a bit, tying it all together.
