Europe is a big place, and there’s a lot of ground to cover when it comes to cocktails. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Today, I’m taking you on a European Tour with my newest gin and scotch cocktail recipe. The European tour cocktail is the perfect drink to transport you away from your day-to-day life. It’s complex and flavorful, with a hint of smokiness that will make you feel like you’re sitting in a cozy bar in the heart of Europe.
The European Tour cocktail features gin, Scotch, and Italicus (a type of aperitivo manufactured in Italy). The botanical ingredients in gin pair perfectly with the smoky notes of the Scotch whisky. The addition of Italicus, a bitter liqueur made from bergamot and Northern Italian herbs, provides just the right amount of complexity.
To bring all of these flavors together, I recommend smoking the cocktail using apple wood chips (I used the ones from Western BBQ). The smoke from the apple chips will add a delicious flavor that pairs perfectly with the botanical ingredients in the drink. Let me show you how to mix one up!
Step 1: Add all ingredients to a mixing glass, top with ice, and stir until chilled.
Step 2: Strain drink into a cocktail glass.
Step 3: Place wood chips into dish, and light using a torch until chips start to smoke.
Step 4: Place drink and burning wood chips on cake platter, and cover for 5 minutes, allowing the smoke to build and infuse drink.
Step 5: Uncover and enjoy!
The delightfully complex flavor profile of this gin and scotch cocktail is truly like no other. One sip is all it takes to find yourself feeling as though you have been swept away to Europe for the night. If you’re looking for a unique and delicious cocktail recipe that will take you on a trip to Europe without leaving your kitchen, be sure to give the European Tour cocktail a try! So grab your passport and your ingredients, and let’s get started!
