Dragon Berry Mojito

Diamonds

Mojitos are easily one of the most popular rum cocktails around, and it’s not hard to understand why. The classic mojito recipe is light & refreshing, but you can also change it up in a million different ways. There really are endless flavor options. Whether I’m feeling watermelon, guava, or even dragon berry, I know that I can stir up a mojito and never be disappointed. So, if you’re looking for something new to liven up your at-home bartending game, but you’re not sure where to start, this drink is for you!

Now, what is dragon berry you might ask? Well… I had the same question! After a quick search, I discovered that it’s actually just a dragon fruit! And get this, this unique and beautiful fruit belongs to the cactus family. Believe me—I was surprised to say the least. Despite being a close relative to the cacti, I was delighted by how much I enjoyed this Dragon Berry Mojito! It’s inspired me to shake things up a little more frequently… I mean who knew that something so scary on the outside could taste so good on the inside?

Step 1: Add lime, mint, and sugar into a cocktail glass and muddle.

What’s the point of muddling a cocktail? Mashing together ingredients  helps to release flavors that wouldn’t come out in just a shake– creating a greater depth of flavor!

Step 2: Then stir in the dragonfruit.

You can use fresh dragon fruit if it’s in season where you’re located. For me, I used a store bought puree to get the best dragon fruit flavor, as dragon fruit isn’t a common ingredient used here in the PNW.

Step 3: Fill glass with ice, pour rum overtop, and balance with sparkling water.

For my rum, I used the Dragon berry flavored rum from Bacardi.

In the Dragon Berry Mojito, I used a red dragon fruit puree which is what brings that deep magenta color to the drink. Red dragon fruit has a mild kiwi-ish, tropical flavor that goes quite deliciously with the lime and mint. I paired that with dragon berry rum to add a little extra va va voom to the glass! So, next time you’re looking for a new mojito flavor, mix up the Dragon Berry Mojito. Once you get over the idea of drinking a prickly cactus, you’ll love it just as much as I do!
