Coffee Negroni

Diamonds

A Negroni is a true classic in the world of mixology, and it happens to be one of my all-time favorite sippers. Today, I’m bringing you a unique, delicious variation with a coffee kick to it. The Coffee Negroni is a bold, smoky cocktail that pays homage to the original while standing out on its own!

Most Negronis are made with gin as a base spirit, but this is where we start changing things a bit. Instead of gin, I opted for a reposado tequila! While that may seem surprising, trust me: it added an entirely new dimension to this cocktail. Of course, the tequila’s flavor profile will depend on the brand and style use, but the key elements in reposado tequila are notes of oak, spices, and a dash of smokiness to the finish. So if you’re a fan of tequila, this is going to be the cocktail recipe for you!

Circling back to the roots of a classic Negroni, we’re adding in some Campari and sweet vermouth. Campari is a deep red Italian liqueur known for it’s bitter, spiced notes (that work perfectly with the reposado tequila). Sweet vermouth, our other addition, is a full-body fortified wine that has its own signature sweetness.

The coffee element comes into the picture with a simple coffee liqueur. Coffee liqueur brings a deep, rich complexity to this drink. Coffee liqueur, with its sweet, roasted flavor profile accompanied by notes of vanilla and chocolate,  plays nicely with both Campari and sweet vermouth.

To sweeten things up I decided to add in some creme de cacao, which is a chocolate flavored liqueur. Not only does it act as a sweetener, but chocolate also pairs exceptionally well with coffee, enhancing and intensifying the overall sipping experience.

Step 3: Express a fresh orange peel over a flame, on the edge of the glass. Then place the peel into your glass as a garnish.

An espresso-flavored Negroni is a must-try experience, at least once. This particular Coffee Negroni is not only quick and easy to make but also guaranteed to impress from the very first sip. Whip up this cocktail this weekend and see for yourself; I’m confident you’ll be anything but disappointed.
