Is there anything that captures the essence of fall more than cinnamon? It’s a must-have! Just think of what your holiday pies and ciders would be missing without it. In honor of the shifting seasons, I’ve been trying to work a touch of cinnamon into my recent cocktail recipes, and this Cinnamon Tequila Sour truly lets this spice shine through. The smoky flavor notes of tequila pair wonderfully with cinnamon simple syrup, and once you’ve added a splash of lemon juice and an egg white, you’ll see why this seasonal cocktail has made it onto my favorites list.
For some, the idea of making ingredients by hand can be a little daunting, but trust me, cinnamon simple syrup is a breeze to make. Personally, I prefer the mason jar approach: simply add equal parts sugar and water, throw in a few cinnamon sticks, and let it sit (around 6 – 8 hours, ideally).
I love the way the flavors and textures play off each other in this cocktail. Egg white gives this drink its rich, foamy texture, and lemon juice adds just the right amount of acidity. Cocktails are all about balance, and this one hits the mark.
Let me show you how to mix one up!
Step 1: Squeeze lemon juice into shaker, then add cinnamon simple syrup and tequila.
Step 2: Add egg white to shaker. Shake vigorously with spiral ball until mixture is foamy.
Step 3: Add ice, and shake again until chilled.
Step 4: Strain into glass and enjoy.
Step 5: (optional) Garnish with lemon spiral or fresh flowers.
I usually garnish this tequila sour with a fresh lemon spiral and, if available, a sprig of fresh flowers, but you’re welcome to experiment with your own presentation. After all, that’s what makes mixology so fun! Everything can be personalized, right down to the finishing touches.
I’ve been enjoying this recipe during the fall, but there’s nothing holding you back from making it year-round, particularly if you love cinnamon as much as I do! Happy mixing!
