Chocolate and cocktails may seem like an unlikely pair, but the Chocolate Negroni is here to prove otherwise. If you’re a fan of the classic Negroni but want to add a touch of sweetness, this chocolatey take on the classic cocktail will satisfy your cravings.
Lately I’ve been diving into classic recipes. There’s something truly special about classic cocktails that have stood the test of time. I’ve been a huge fan of Negronis for years now and I thought this would be a great opportunity to whip one up suited for dessert.
Making a Chocolate Negroni sounded heavenly to me. Negronis offer a balance of bitter and sweet flavors that’s hard to resist, while dessert cocktails provide a decadent and indulgent experience that’s ideal for catering to those sweet cravings.
This recipe holds true to the classic, but as always, I’ve made a few adjustments so that the addition of new ingredients mix well with others in the cocktail. The creme de cacao is what adds the chocolatey, dessert element to this Negroni. It gives the mixture a distinct sweetness while also providing a smooth, rich texture. It really is like taking a bite of chocolate in a glass!
As for the traditional ingredient of sweet vermouth, I decided to swap that out with Grand Marnier. Vermouth has a distinct spiced flavor that I felt would overpower a cocktail recipe catered for dessert. Grand Marnier seemed like a great alternative due to its citrusy notes, which blend perfectly with the creme de cacao.
When mixed together, the Chocolate Negroni is a treat you’ve just got to try for yourself!
Step 1: Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir for 30 seconds until thoroughly mixed & chilled.
Step 2: Strain into an old fashioned glass, over a large ice cube.
Step 3: Garnish with an orange peel and chocolate candy.
In my opinion, one of the best things about the Chocolate Negroni is its versatility. It can be enjoyed as an after-dinner drink or as a cocktail to sip on during a casual weekend afternoon with friends. The richness of the chocolate flavor also makes it a great choice for a winter cocktail, but it’s just as enjoyable in the summer months ahead of us. If you’re feeling adventurous, try making your own Chocolate Negroni at home.
