Cherry Sage French 75

Diamonds

Today, we’re diving into the wonderful world of vodka-based cocktails, specifically the Cherry Sage French 75. This drink is a creative spin on the classic French 75, beloved in the mixology scene for its elegance and refreshing taste. Before we delve into our star cocktail, it’s essential to understand its origin. The classic French 75, a staple in the cocktail world, is traditionally made with gin, lemon juice, sugar, and Champagne.

The Cherry Sage French 75 reimagines the original by infusing cherry and sage flavors, creating a balance of sweet, sour, and herbal notes. Let’s explore how this variation adds a unique twist while maintaining the nostalgia of the original!

For this recipe, we’ll be swapping the gin for vodka, but more specifically cherry vodka. I used Wild Roots Cherry Infused Vodka. One thing I love about this particular vodka is that it’s infused with real cherries, giving the spirit a deep red hue without any artificial colors or sweeteners. You really get that authentic cherry taste within the vodka, making it a perfect addition to any cocktail.

Replacing traditional sugar, honey simple syrup brings a smooth, natural sweetness that complements the cherry vodka. Its rich flavor profile adds depth and a hint of floral undertones. Now, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t veer too far from the original recipe. So, just like in the classic, lemon juice is key. It cuts through the sweetness with its bright acidity, adding a refreshing zing that balances the drink.

Getting into the sage element of this Cherry Sage French 75, I’m dropping in some fresh sage leaves into the cocktail shaker. Sage leaves add an earthy, slightly peppery note that contrasts beautifully with the cherry and honey flavors.

Once those ingredients are shaken with ice and strained into your cocktail glass, we’ll be taking inspiration from the classic recipe but with a new take: Prosecco. Topping off the cocktail with Prosecco instead of Champagne introduces a lighter, slightly fruitier effervescence. This choice enhances the cherry notes while maintaining the classic’s bubbly charm.

We always should be aiming to finish strong with the garnish! Here you’ll see I popped in some more fresh sage leaves and a couple of cranberries. Not only does this infuse the cocktail with some lovely aromas but gives it some color and dimension.

Simple but it makes all the difference.

It’s a testament to how a few simple tweaks can transform a classic into something new and exciting. I love giving classic cocktail recipes a unique Queen Bee touch, and I know you won’t be disappointed with this one!
