The Caramel Mudslide is here to satisfy both your cocktail and sweet tooth cravings all in one chocolate-dipped glass. Sometimes I find myself craving a little caffeine boost with a boozy kick and a sweet finish – this recipe does just that!
With just three simple steps and ingredients that are either already in your bar or an easy pick up at your local market, this cocktail is easy to make and even easier to enjoy. That being said, I think it’s time to dive into this recipe!
First things first, you’ve got to rim your coupe glass with chocolate. I recommend melting some chocolate bars rather than grabbing the chocolate syrup as the melted chocolate effortlessly coats itself onto the glass. Trust me when I say you’ll save yourself some time and the hassle by sticking some fresh pieces of chocolate into the microwave. Be sure to stick it in the freezer after rimming so that chocolate can set into place and firm up a bit. The chocolate rim is the best part as it provides the cocktail with a rich finish, and who wouldn’t love that?
Now, onto the cocktail mixture itself! When making cocktails that involve coffee liqueur, I tend to go for vodka as the base spirit since it has such a crisp and clean flavor to it. That way it doesn’t overpower the other notes. As the vodka lays the groundwork, the spotlight turns to Kahlua – a deep, rich, coffee liqueur with a hint of sweetness.
To really bring out the texture of the Caramel Mudslide, pour in some Irish Cream. Not only does it have a velvety texture, it smooths out the mixture, making it an easy sipper. (I always make sure to combine ingredients that make for a beautiful sipping experience!)
And of course, It wouldn’t be called a Caramel Mudslide without the caramel itself! I drizzled a bit of caramel sauce straight into the cocktail shaker. Easy enough right? Caramel has such a distinct flavor so don’t go overboard with the drizzles.
Shake it all together with ice and you’ve got yourself a tasty treat!
Step 1: Chill a glass in the freezer in advance, and rim with melted chocolate. Stick it back in the freezer. (Optional)
Step 2: Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake for about 30 seconds, or until well combined.
Step 3: Strain cocktail into prepared glass.
Optional: Garnish with coffee beans.
