As a martini lover, I’m always looking for new ways to mix up this classic drink from the world of mixology. My husband and I often mix up a refreshing martini at the end of our long and busy weeks. Naturally, I began looking into different variations of the traditional martini in order to gain some inspiration for this recipe and I came across a tequila martini! But as the Queen Bee, I had to give it a special touch of my own: butterfly pea flower.
That’s right, this Butterfly Pea Flower Cocktail is a tequila-based martini that’s infused with butterfly pea flower, creating a lively drink with a beautiful hue. So, if you’re looking to try something new and exciting, then I highly recommend giving this martini recipe a try.
Now, I know what you might be thinking. “Butterfly what?” Don’t worry, it’s not as exotic as it sounds. Butterfly pea flowers are actually quite common in Southeast Asia, where they’re often used to brew a bright blue tea. When mixed with acidic ingredients like lime juice or lemon juice, the blue color transforms into a vibrant shade of pink or purple. And yes, you guessed it – it’s the perfect ingredient to give your tequila martini a pop of color.
To make butterfly pea flower infused tequila, you’ll need a bottle of your favorite tequila and a handful of dried butterfly pea flowers. Simply add the flowers to the bottle, give it a good shake, and let it sit for a few hours (or overnight) until the color transfers. Easy as that!
The remaining are elements are your everyday martini ingredients apart from the addition of agave syrup. Agave syrup pairs perfectly with tequila as it adds a sweet touch to the spice from the spirit. It’s commonly mixed in to margarita recipes, so this was an easy decision when putting together this recipe.
Step 1: Add ingredients to shaker.
Step 2: Shake over ice until chilled.
Step 3: Strain into glass and garnish with cherry.
So, what does it taste like, you ask? Well, the butterfly pea flower infused tequila adds a subtle floral note that complements the dry vermouth and orange bitters. It’s not overly sweet or fruity, so it’s great for those who prefer a more complex cocktail. And of course, the color is just stunning – it’s sure to impress your guests at your next party.
Be sure to add butterfly pea flowers to your shopping list and mix up this Butterfly Pea Flower Cocktail!
