Bourbon Strawberry Iced Tea

Diamonds

I’ve mixed up a cocktail that combines the rich flavors of bourbon with the sweet, fruity notes of strawberries and the refreshing taste of iced tea. It’s (suitably) called the Bourbon Strawberry Iced Tea, and it’s perfect for those sunny afternoons when you just want to kick back and relax with something tasty in hand. This recipe is straightforward but packs a punch with its layered flavors.

Ready to give it a go?

First, we start by muddling those fresh strawberries with a splash of lemon juice in a shaker. This step is crucial because it breaks down the strawberries, releasing their natural sweetness and tang. These are notes you simply won’t be able to get on artificial flavorings alone, so I always recommend using fresh ingredient when you can!

This is a bourbon-based cocktail for a couple of reasons. Bourbon, with its caramel, vanilla, and oak notes, adds a warming richness to the cocktail and is a natural match for iced tea. It also pairs beautifully with the fruitiness of the strawberries, creating a smooth, rounded flavor. We then want to emphasis the presence of that strawberry flavor in the cocktail even further by adding some strawberry liqueur. This adds an extra layer of sweetness and a more concentrated strawberry essence, making the fruit flavors pop even more.

The honey simple syrup sweetens the deal without overpowering the other ingredients. It has a gentler, more floral sweetness compared to regular simple syrup, which complements the fruit and bourbon perfectly.

Once these ingredients are shaken together with ice, you’re going to want to prepare your glass for serving. For that, grab a highball as these types of glasses are perfect for cocktails that require a higher volume of mixer, like iced tea in this case. The larger size allows for a good proportion of alcohol to mixer, ensuring that the drink remains balanced and not too strong or too weak. Then, fill the glass with ice and fresh lemon slices to give the drink a but more of a subtle citrus edge. Now the prepared cocktail mixture can be poured into your prepared glass.

Finally, topping off the cocktail with freshly brewed iced black tea adds a refreshing, slightly bitter note that ties everything together. The tea’s tannins help to balance out the sweetness, while its subtle flavors enhance the complexity of the drink. If you have a particular black tea that you like, opt for that, but any black tea will do the trick!
