The Blueberry French 75 is a cocktail that feels like an occasion in itself. It’s the kind of drink you’d serve for that long-awaited brunch with your closest friends, or sip solo while flipping through a coffee table book on a Sunday afternoon.
This one came about on a whim, actually. I was making a traditional French 75 when I spotted some fresh blueberries I had leftover from a weekend tart.
I ended up with a sparkling, berry-kissed pour that feels both familiar and fresh—like the original… but with a little lipstick on.
It starts with a handful of ripe blueberries, gently muddled to release their vibrant juice and rich color. The flavor is sweet but grounded with a slight tartness, giving the cocktail its deep berry tone and natural flair.
Gin follows, bringing its crisp botanicals and floral complexity into the mix. It’s the perfect partner for the berries—structured enough to hold its own, but soft enough to let the fruit shine.
Lime juice brings in a bright, citrusy lift, while lemon simple syrup smooths the edges with a velvety sweetness.
These two ingredients do the heavy lifting when it comes to balance, cutting through the richness of the fruit and highlighting the herbal notes in the gin.
Once shaken and chilled, the mixture is double strained into a champagne flute that’s been rimmed with lemon zest and sugar: sweet, aromatic, and visually striking.
Then comes the real sparkle: a pour of champagne over top, creating that iconic French 75 effervescence that lifts everything into something celebratory.
Garnish with a few blueberries and a sprig of mint, and suddenly, this cocktail feels like it was made for a little toast.
Step 1: Rim a glass with a sugar lemon zest mixture. Set aside.
Step 2: In a cocktail shaker, muddle down a small handful of blueberries.
Step 3: Pour in the gin, lime juice, and honey simple syrup topped with ice. Shake until chilled.
Step 4: Double strain the mixture into your prepared glass.
Step 5: Top off with champagne and garnish.
The Blueberry French 75 is the kind of cocktail that makes you slow down, take smaller sips, and appreciate the sparkle, on the surface and in the moment.
It’s fun without being frivolous. Pretty without trying too hard. And yes, it’s absolutely worth making even if brunch is just you, a playlist, and a sun-drenched seat by the window.
