Beetroot Negroni


A Negroni cocktail is one of those essential recipes everyone should try! As with most classic cocktails, there are so many ways to create new spins on the original recipe, and trust me, I’ve created a few.

But today, I’ll be mixing up a colorful and delicious Beetroot Negroni. While this is still a Negroni at its heart, it introduces an earthy depth, creating a unique and memorable drinking experience.

Before we explore the Beetroot Negroni, let’s pay homage to the classic Negroni – a cocktail synonymous with sophistication and simplicity. The traditional Negroni is a perfect blend of three key ingredients: gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari. This trinity creates a smooth balance of botanicals, sweetness, and bitterness, making it a beloved choice for cocktail enthusiasts.

Now, turning our attention to the Beetroot Negroni. This variant maintains the core structure of the classic cocktail but introduces an intriguing twist – beet juice. The addition of beet juice not only changes the cocktail’s visual appeal with its deep, earthy red hue but also adds a new dimension to the flavor profile.

The gin continues to serve as the backbone of the cocktail, offering a botanical complexity that pairs beautifully with the earthiness of beetroot. Gin as a spirit provides a type of crisp and floral freshness making it a great spirit to both sip on and mix into cocktails.

Again, sticking to the “roots” of the original recipe, sweet vermouth remains a crucial component. Providing a herbal sweetness that complements the natural sugars in the beet juice. Not only that, but sweet vermouth is an essential ingredient to keep in stock if you’re looking to elevate your home bar. Similarly, Campari maintains its role, delivering a bitter contrast that balances the cocktail’s sweetness and highlights the beetroot’s savory notes.

Things get truly interesting with the addition of beet juice. Beet juice offers an earthy depth, with a subtle sweetness and a hint of mineral richness.

Finish it all off by garnishing with a fresh orange peel twist, which adds a citrusy aroma and a beautiful pop of color.
