Is the name of this cocktail an Arrested Development reference? Maybe. Is it an absolutely delicious recipe? Definitely! But I know that, if you’re a whiskey aficionado like my husband, you might be suspect of cocktails like The Banana Stand. But, also like my husband, you just might be surprised by how tasty they can be. So, if you’re a little hesitant about mixing whiskey with banana, leave your spirit-purest mindset at the door, and take my word for it. This amazing cocktail is full of wonderful flavors that all come together to create the perfect balance of decadence and “yum factor.”
For this cocktail creation I chose to use Uncle Nearest, a whiskey brand whose rich history is deeply tied to the skill and tenacity of the first African American Master Distiller on record. Nearest Green, also known as the founding father of Tennessee whiskey, perfected a renowned filtration method and refined the unique and smooth taste of Tennessee whiskey. If you haven’t given Uncle Nearest a try, I highly recommend grabbing a bottle for your home bar! It’s an extremely versatile spirit and can be savored served straight, or mixed in an adventurous cocktail recipe like the Banana Stand.
Well, what do you think? Have I sold you on banana as a delicious, and subtly sweet, cocktail ingredient? I personally love the balance of the Uncle Nearest Whiskey, Banana du Bresil, and Creme de Cacao. Plus with the creamy texture we get from the egg white? This cocktail is a new classic in my book! Garnish with a banana slice, or dried lemon wheel, for a sophisticated happy hour treat. Plus, if you love this creation, I recommend checking out my recipe for the Ruth Bader Ginsberg – it’s another banana-focused cocktail recipe that will not disappoint!
